Alcohol & Drug Addiction Treatment Support Groups for Teens

Drug Addiction Treatment Support Groups for TeensAt each of our Crossroads locations, we offer support groups for teens three times per week. These meetings give teens a chance to practice the techniques learned throughout the week in outpatient drug rehab. Our support groups focus on topics such as drug addiction recovery and the twelve steps. These teen centered support groups give our program a unique advantage over other alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs in the area, as we are the only option in Missouri with a specialized 12-step support group for teens. Crossroads has offered supervised teen and young adult support groups since 1982.

In addition to our teen support groups, the sober social events held twice per week on the weekends are a distinguishing feature of our programs. These get-togethers reinforce the tactics teens learn in their drug addiction treatment, especially how to have fun in social situations without the use of mind-altering chemicals, which likely pervaded their social experiences prior to recovery. These events encourage teens to build new relationships with others who are committed to sobriety and who are going through the same struggles and successes. These events are enjoyable and exciting and show teens how to have fun sober, while making positive, real connections with their peers.

The Importance of Support Groups in Drug Abuse/Addiction Treatment

At The Crossroads Program, we believe that support groups are an important tool in alcohol and drug addiction recovery. The path to recovery can be quite difficult and the opportunities to relapse are frequent, therefore, complete recovery requires community to be most effective and lasting. Support groups empower struggling teens to build positive relationships that further their drug addiction treatment by building on social strengths and successes to resist the pitfalls of relapse.

Teen Drug Addiction TreatmentThe social aspect of our support groups rebuilds a young adult’s self-worth and provides life skills through peer mentorship, adult role models and fun activities, which all lead to a lasting sober adulthood. This emphasis on community and social activities teaches young people that sober does not equal somber. The opportunity to share with others going through drug addiction treatment while having fun and interacting in a sober environment teaches teens to enjoy life, drug-free. Social interactions lead to “positive peer pressure” that will inspire teenagers to stay sober together.

The Crossroads drug addiction treatment support groups include one on one counseling for each participant on an as-needed basis. Combining the group aspect with the individual aspect means our drug addiction recovery support groups ensure accountability, growth, and a solid recovery, which leads to an eventual transition to strictly self-help meetings.
